He gives me an intentionally corny wink, and I reply by making a goofy noise with my mouth.

“Aw, are you trying to pick me up, Jameson?” I ask, taking the cup from him.

“Why? Are you available?”

“Um, no,” I ponder. “I’m dating this really handsome businessman who works in electronics.”

“Electronics, eh?” He smiles.

“That’s right.” I nod, taking a sip of the coffee. It’s really good—and expensive also. I can tell somehow, despite not being a huge coffee drinker. “He just got back from Albania, which is where he started his business.”

“Wow, he must be quite the guy.” Jameson nods. “I hear it’s tough out there.”

“Oh he is.” I smile. “So unfortunately that means I’m off the market.”

“Well, that’s unfortunate. You’re telling me I can’t win you over with a cup of coffee and say…a nice kiss?”

Jameson leans in, slides his hand up through my hair, and pulls my lips to his.

What could be better than this? Coffee in bed and a nice wake-up kiss?

I close my eyes as he presses his mouth to mine. There’s a huge smile plastered across my face as he pulls away. “Yeah, I could definitely get used to this.”

“So that could win you over?” he asks.

I giggle and nod. “I think you may have won me, mister.”

I take another sip of my coffee and swing my legs out of bed. The warmth of the radiant-heated floor soaks into my bare feet as I come around to Jameson, who is standing there like the king of the home, dragging his eyes up my nude body.

And I don’t even feel shy anymore. In fact, I love the fact that he’s looking at me, and I go over beside him and slip beneath his arm, where I fit perfectly.

I’ve only been here a few days, and it’s starting to feel like a home.

“Do you want me to go with you today?” Jameson asks, pulling me close, letting me know with just the right amount of pressure from his arm that he’s there for me. “Because I will if you need me to.”

I want to tell him no. I want to tell him that this is my thing to do, and I need to handle it on my own. But I also know I can’t.

I know I’m not ready yet.

So I turn to him and gaze up at his handsome face, his strong, brilliant eyes, and I nod.

“Yes. If you don’t mind.”

“Are you kidding?” He smiles. “Of course I don’t mind, baby. Anything for you.”

I take a breath, turn, and faceplant into his massive, manly chest. He chuckles, and I start to relax as I can feel his heartbeat against my cheek. I do my best to focus on it instead of what the rest of the day has in store for me.

“I should go shower,” I say.

“Hungry? I was about to make breakfast.”

“Sure.” I nod. “I’ll have whatever you’re having.”

“Oh? Because I was going to have you,” Jameson teases, growling lightly as he runs his teeth across the skin of my neck.

I giggle and squeeze my arms around his waist as hard as I can before turning away and heading for the bathroom. Just as I’m turning on the water, I hear my phone vibrate and quickly rush over to pick it up. It’s Eliza.

“Ha, I answered this time!”

“I’m blown away,” she replies sarcastically. “Welcome to the modern world.”

“I’m sorry. Have you been trying to reach me?” I ask. “Please tell me you weren’t trying to call me and I have like ten missed calls from you.”

“Eleven actually,” she replies, but I can hear from her tone that she’s just messing with me. “I just had the day off today and thought I’d call to see what you were up to and if you wanted to get together.”

A smile comes over my face. I already know.

Jameson must have called her before I woke up. He called her because he knew that I was going to need support today, and he knew that the more people I had around me who cared about me the better. Because today is the day that I’m finally going to go confront my mom about going into rehab.

“You know what, Eliza? I actually could use your help today.”

“Yeah?” she asks. I can hear her smiling from the other side of the phone. “With what?”

If I were to say I’m nervous as we pull up to my house that would be putting it lightly.

Normally when I know I am going to have to deal with my mom, I just end up in a bad mood. I’m fed up, I’m grouchy, and I just put myself in a state that will allow me to get through whatever it is I’m going to have to do to deal with her.

But today is different.

Today I am going to have to take a different approach with her. Today I’m going to have to try and be nice and sweet and personable and show her that I am here for her and that I actually care.
