“We’ll take care of the mess and return to the clubhouse directly,” Brick said over the radio. “Tell Sting all is well.”

Dog jumped back inside the Bronco, her back claws scraping down the side as she dug for leverage to push herself through the window.

“Goddamnit, Walker! I’m taking the money for a new paint job outta that dog’s hide.”

“You touch her, and I’ll hurt you worse,” Blossom snarled at Clutch.

The other man jerked back. “You know I was kiddin’, darlin’. Right?”

“No. I don’t. Take it back.”

Clutch looked from Blossom to me, then back to Blossom, and sighed dramatically before grinning. “Fine. I take it back. I’ll just take it outta your man’s hide.”

Epilogue

Blossom

I sat there in shock as Wylde laid out a bank book, debit card, and a financial portfolio on the table in front of me. “I don’t understand.”

“This is your inheritance from your father.” For once in his life, Wylde was serious, even gentle as he explained everything to me. “You’ve had interest from your trust going into your checking account every month for years.”

“That figure can’t be right.” I could barely speak. Seriously, I had never seen a number that high.

Wylde smiled at me while Walker rubbed my back in soothing circles. I felt like my heart was going to explode. “It’s right, honey.” Wylde tapped the paper with his finger. “Your father provided for you and your mother, but mostly for you. When your mother died, it triggered a provision in his will for everything she had, everything that hadn’t gone to any children you had, to revert to you. Since your father passed without having any more children and your mother passed before you had children, everything your father had reverted to you. You are his sole heir.” He grinned. “And one of the richest women on the planet.”

“I never knew.” I felt like I was in a dream. Like I’d wake up any minute back in the hell that had been my life as long as I could remember. “Why would he do that?” I turned to Walker. He had no way of knowing my father’s mind, but I looked to him anyway. Why? Because I trusted him that much. He might not have all my answers, but I’d still ask his opinion and consider everything he said. We were a team. Together. My heart swelled every time I looked at him, especially when he gave me that soft smile like he was now. I’d never seen him look at anyone that way, especially me. At least in the beginning. Now, he seemed to look at me that way all the time.

“I suppose he wanted to make sure you were taken care of. You above everyone else, baby.” He gave me that smile I’d come to crave. “Because he loved you.”

Then I frowned, shaking my head. “But, why didn’t Mom tell me about this? She bought everything I had. My car. Clothes. I lived at home. I mean, she gave me money anytime I asked for it, but wouldn’t it have been easier to give me access to this? It’s a checking account! Not a whole bank!”

Sparkle growled and barked at my feet, clearly outraged on my behalf. I bent and picked up the pup, cuddling her until she settled. Walker settled his arm around my shoulders and leaned in to kiss my temple. “Looks to me like it’s several banks, baby.” He chuckled. “Good to know you’ll never have to worry about anything if something happens to me.”

“What? Don’t say that, Walker!”

“Don’t worry. Ain’t nothin’ gonna happen to me. I’m just saying, you’ve got a nice little nest egg there for you and any kids we have. One less thing to worry about.”

“Nest egg? That’s more money than I could spend in ten lifetimes, Walker! What the hell am I supposed to do with all that?”

“What your dad intended for you to do with it,” Walker whispered next to my ear. “Keep the trusts earning for our children and yourself. Use the money in the checking account any way you want to. It’s yours, baby. Ain’t no one gonna tell you what to do with it.”

“With me being your old lady, it will be yours too.”

“Oh, no, Blossom.” His warm chuckle confused me as much as it filled my heart. “That’s all yours. I got my own money. What’s mine is yours, but I’m not takin’ money from my woman. Not like that. We can talk about that later. Wylde just wanted to make sure you knew what you had.”

A thought occurred to me, and I tensed. I looked up at Walker, needing to see his expression. He gave me a puzzled look, but I looked down at Sparkle, needing a distraction from the thoughts in my head.

“What’s that look for?” Walker’s voice hardened and I flinched. I had no idea why I was so unsure of myself. But I had to wonder if all that money made a difference with him.
