“What’s up? Did Dillinger say anything outside to hint that he poisoned the cows?” Cole asked as they crossed the lawn toward the guest house.
JB honest-to-God blinked at his companion. His brain wasn’t working any longer. For a second, he really couldn’t understand why people kept asking him about Dillinger when there were more important things to worry about like Cole’s mouth and Cole’s hands. And most important of all, Cole’s mouth and hands on JB’s body.
But then he remembered that Dillinger had just been there, acting like an asshat as he’d tossed out veiled threats and homophobic remarks. Which had caused Cole to take his hand. In front of his parents. In front of that douchetool. Cole had been there, ready to fight for the ranch and JB.
Which made JB all the more hot and bothered.
“Dillinger didn’t say anything else.”
“You think of something else? Need me to get Rowe and Noah on the phone?”
The mention of his sort-of ex made JB’s grin return, because he knew without a doubt that he didn’t want Noah. Didn’t want the man anywhere near him. The only person he wanted was right beside him.
JB kept his hand on Cole’s elbow as they hurried across the yard. They were practically jogging, and JB didn’t want to release Cole. If he did, Cole might slow down. And if Cole slowed, then JB was just gonna have to kiss the shit out of this man right out in the middle of everything, and he had a feeling Cole wasn’t quite ready for that.
Pushing the door open, JB stepped inside first and slammed it shut after Cole entered. He pushed the man against the door, earning a soft grunt, but JB caught the sound in his mouth as he covered Cole’s with his.
For a heartbeat, Cole didn’t move beneath him but JB slid his tongue along Cole’s bottom lip and Cole moaned deeply before kissing him back. The delicious kiss went on and on, their bodies pressed tightly together. JB swore he could be completely lost in Cole. The world faded away and there was only the taste of Cole, the feel of his strong hands as they moved up and down his spine, molding them together as if he needed them to be one body.
Reluctantly, JB broke off the kiss, coming up for air while cursing his damn lungs. Didn’t they know he only needed Cole? Fuck oxygen.
“Was this your ‘something’?” Cole chuckled against his throat as he nibbled at his Adam’s apple.
“Are you gonna hate me if I say yes?” The question came out sounding far too much like a whine, but Cole’s lips were sliding up to his ear and he was sucking on his earlobe. It was shorting out his blood-starved brain.
“Never.” Cole sent his hot breath across that tender, wet flesh and JB was sure Cole was going to make him come in his goddamn jeans. A chill skittered up his spine, and he grabbed Cole’s mouth for another drugging kiss.
Their tongues tangled as if they were fighting for dominance, but it didn’t last long. Cole submitted, and JB plundered his mouth to the delicious sounds of pleasure rumbling up his throat. When Cole handed parts of himself over to JB, he gave them completely and without reservation. The power was intoxicating, but the trust was even more humbling. While he wanted to take everything Cole had to offer, it was always with the idea that he was stealing it away to guard with his very life. He wanted to make Cole his and his alone.
“My dad…my dad was asking about us holding hands,” JB panted. He kissed his way down Cole’s neck while trying to slide one of his hands up the man’s shirt. Why the hell were they still wearing so many clothes? Cole needed to stop with this clothes habit of his. It was only slowing them down.
Cole turned his head, trying to recapture his mouth. “Maybe I was worried about you.”
“Maybe?” JB teased. He tilted his lips toward Cole, but he kept pulling back when Cole tried to kiss him.
Reaching up, Cole grabbed JB’s head, holding him in place. His bright-blue eyes blazed with a hot inner light. “Maybe I was worried a lot about you.” He slammed their mouths together, and JB could only submit himself to Cole’s forceful control. Okay, so maybe a bossy Cole turned him into an utter pile of goo.
“Is it weird that you worrying about me turns me on?”
Cole grinned at him. “Everything is weird about you, baby.”
JB kissed him as they both smiled, making it a lot of teeth scraping and biting, but he didn’t care. He loved how much Cole smiled at him, how much they laughed together.
But quickly, the kiss slowed, becoming something unexpectedly softer. Gentler. Cole broke off the kiss to nuzzle his face to JB’s. When JB tried to pull back to look him in the eye again, Cole’s hand in his hair tightened, holding him in place.
