“Riggs doesn’t want you,” I scoff, trying to unlock my phone without her noticing. “He disappeared because you tried to kill him. In what world do you actually believe he’d take you back?”

“He might not take me back, but I won’t live with him moving on. I won’t let it happen.”

Yep.

Fucking crazy.

“You’re loopy, lady. He is going to fall in love and forget about you, if he hasn’t already. Do yourself a favor and go find someone else to torture.”

She bares her pretty white teeth at me. “You’re pushing my limits now, Eve. Take the cuffs off that table and put them on. If you don’t, I’ll start shooting, feet first and slowly move up until you’re in so much pain you’ll wish you listened the first time.”

I glance at the table by the sofa and see a pair of cuffs. This crazy bitch has this all planned out. I should have listened to Riggs when he told me she shouldn’t be trusted. I look back at her, and one look at her face tells me she’s serious. I’m not about to risk getting shot, so I walk toward the table and take the cuffs.

“Drop the phone.”

I exhale, gritting my teeth. I drop the phone to the floor and take the cuffs.

“Put them on.”

I do as she asks, putting them on. Only when they’re secured does she lower the gun and walk toward me, taking my bound hands and trying to pull me. We’re face to face, and I can’t help myself. I slam my forehead into her pretty nose. She screams and lunges backwards and I watch her grip her face in horror as blood spurts. That’ll be broken, and with a face like hers, it’ll never look good again.

“That’s for nearly putting me in prison, lying, and trying to hurt Riggs. You had it coming,” I mutter.

“You fucking bitch!” she screeches, lifting the gun to hit me but she hears sirens in the distance.

I didn’t call the cops, but maybe Riggs did? Perhaps he thought it was taking too long. Either way it’s enough to scare her off. She takes her gun, keys, and phone, and rushes toward the door, looking back at me when she reaches it. “If you think this is over, Eve, you’re wrong. You better watch your back. Oh, and I’d get to a toilet soon, you’ll need it.”

Then, she’s gone.

What the fuck is she talking about?

As if on cue, my stomach makes a loud, gurgling sound.

That bitch.

That insane fucking bitch.

She put something in the food.

By the time the police bust in and Riggs follows in behind them, I’m in a ball on the ground, crying in pain as my stomach clenches in a way I never wish to experience again in my life. Riggs rushes over and kneels down. “You’re hurt.”

“She put something in my food,” I cry. “I’m going to vomit, Riggs. Help.”

They uncuff me as fast as they can and I’m off down the hall before anyone can even ask me where Carmen is. I reach the toilet just in time and I vomit until I’m sobbing and crying in pain. Until there is nothing left in my stomach. Until the pain is so unbearable, I can do nothing but lie on the ground and cry.

Riggs has been by my side since I first came in here, but I’ve not noticed him. I haven’t had the chance to even worry that he’s in here seeing me in this horrible state. He has rubbed my back, held my hair, and sat by me as I hurled up every last thing in my body.

“You need a hospital,” he murmurs, stroking my damp hair from my forehead. “God knows what she gave you. You think you can get into the truck?”

“She did this on purpose,” I groan, clutching my aching stomach. “She wanted you to be turned off so you’d never want to have sex with me again. That’s sure to be the case now you’ve seen me hurling like a fucking drunk teenager.”

Riggs chuckles. “Seen worse. Come on, let’s get you up.”

He gets me up and tells the cops, who are now here, that I’ll make a statement as soon as I’m feeling better. Then, he takes me to his truck and off to the hospital we go.

Carmen is going to pay for this.

One way or another, she’ll pay.

I’ll make sure of it.

I LEAN FORWARD IN THE hospital chair as Riggs aims the shower head at my back and lets the hot water run over my skin. It’s the only way I can find relief from the cramping pain. I have stopped vomiting, thanks to an awesome drug the hospital put me on, but it still feels like my insides are going to come busting out at any moment. They did say what Carmen gave me, but beats me if I can pronounce the name.
