After cleaning us both up again I lifted her from the shower and found her an old shirt of mine to wear after drying her off. “We have to get you some clothes.” I smiled down at her and kissed the top of her head. Domestic bliss!

“I have to go home today anyway…” I pulled the shirt on over her head and fixed her hair that got caught before taking her face in my hands and looking down at her. Her eyes, I always look there for the truth because her mouth makes me want to strangle her half the damn time.

“I already told you, that’s not going to happen. I can’t protect you there…. never mind that,” I shook off what I was about to say. She doesn’t need to know any of that dark shit. Shit I’m sure the asshole probably hadn’t protected her from.

“I’ll take you shopping later.” I have to figure out a way to do that without too many eyes seeing us together. I still have her reputation to protect otherwise I wouldn’t give a damn.

But I’m not fool enough not to know where shit would go if we walked out of my building together. I’m fucked if I’m going to hide my woman by going in and out in the dark. So time is what I need right now.

“But…” She stammered and looked at me with pleading eyes. I brushed the hair behind her ear with my fingers and looked down at her. What are you hiding beautiful? I didn’t ask, but instead gave in a little.

“If you want to go later in the week that’s fine I’ll take you, but I don’t have the time right now and besides, you’re not to bring anything his money bought with you remember, so what’s the rush? I’m just taking you to collect whatever important documents you left behind.”

“Gavin, I’m sure they’re going to be looking for me. I don’t want…” She broke off whatever it was she was about to say and again I didn’t push. She was giving more away with the shit she didn’t say anyway.

“Are you afraid of them?” I’m sure she was talking about the senator, so why did she have that look on her face that she tried so hard to hide now? I turned away to grab some clothes for myself, giving her the space she seemed to need after my probing question.

“No, I just don’t want anyone getting into trouble because of me.” Little liar.

“By anyone you mean me. That’s not for you to worry about. And as long as I’m here nothing’s going to happen to you so stop worrying.” I finished throwing on my clothes and led her downstairs to the kitchen.

I sat her on one of the stools around the kitchen island and couldn’t resist stealing a kiss from her kiss-swollen lips. I’d done a real number on her last night. “I’ll make you some tea or coffee, which do you prefer?”

“I don’t want anything right now thanks.”

I ignored her and put on the kettle to boil water for tea while she fidgeted around on the stool. I knew she preferred tea, just one of the many things I’d secretly learned about her.

“Really, you don’t need to go to that much trouble.” I gave her a look but didn’t bother to repeat myself. It was too early for the staff to show up, so breakfast was on me as well.

I made her an omelet and damn near had to force feed it to her. “You’ve been here all night and didn’t eat anything you have to eat, come.” I lifted the fork to her lips and didn’t stop until at least half the omelet was gone and she’d finished her first cup of tea.

“Don’t you have to go to work?” I stopped with the fork halfway to her lips.

“I’ll be working from here today, open.” I slid the food into her mouth and cut her another piece. “Anything else you want to ask me?”

“Not right now no.” It was on the tip of my tongue to ask her if she knew about Vance’s debt or who had bought it up, but she already looked like she’d been through the wringer, plus I can wait for Kevin and his team to get me what I wanted.

“Do you want to talk about what happened yesterday?” Her whole body tensed up and that head of hers went down again. “I mean back at your place, there’s nothing to discuss about what happened between you and I, that’s self explanatory.”

“I…” She bit her lip and played with her fingers. “It’s not something I want to talk about. I already spent hours going over it again and again with the cops, I just want to forget it.”

I studied her in silence before deciding to let it go for now. I’ll just have to keep my eye on her and make sure she’s not suffering any delayed reaction from what had to be a very traumatic experience for her.
