“Shit. We have cops behind us,” someone says from the front seat. They quickly hide the weapons. As much as I don’t want to go with these guys, I don’t want to be taken in because I’ll be in my father’s grasp again and sold off to the devil.

“My hands,” I say, pointing them toward Giovanni. He frees them from the binding with a warning stare. “I’ll behave,” I answer, knowing when to keep my mouth shut around authorities.

“It’s that asshole from the house,” the driver says. Through the driver’s mirror, I get a glimpse of his reflection and I’m petrified. It’s Sanchez. I can’t let him see me. I feel the tears, but I can’t let them show because he’ll think they’re holding me hostage.

“Oh God,” I whisper, ducking down on the floor, but Giovanni isn’t having any of it and scoops me back up into my seat. “Hide me. Please don’t let him take me back.”

He reads me, and the wonder on his face is masked quickly. “Not happening. You’re eighteen at least, right, baby?”

“Yes.”

“Then you’re fine. Keep your ass seated here.” He tucks me into his chest. “Go to sleep.”

“What can we help you with, Officer?” the driver says.

“It’s Detective,” he says, staring into the vehicle from the window.

“If it’s ‘Detective,’ then why the fuck are you pulling us over? That’s not your fucking job,” the driver continues.

“We’re looking for Patricia Moreno. She disappeared from the same building that you left moments ago, and her parents are worried about her. Her driver reported seeing her being kidnapped.” He looks toward the backseat where he sees Gio and me cradled together. “Whoa, and look what we have here? Get out of the vehicle,” he shouts. That is bullshit because my driver saved me from my parents.

“She isn’t going anywhere because she wasn’t kidnapped.”

“Cupcake, are you being kidnapped?” Gio cups my chin and looks into my eyes. Despite being frightened about being taken away, my pussy gushes from just the simple gaze. Do all women melt in his presence?

“No, Gio,” I softly answer, pressing my hand to his thigh. I hear a faint growl rumble from Gio, but I know we’re both playing a part.

“Ms. Moreno, you need to come with me for your own safety.” His voice brings me terror, but Gio’s hold tightens around me, reassuring me that I’m staying put, and he runs his palm down my side from my waist to my thigh, skimming over my ass.

“No, she doesn’t. She’s old enough to decide where she wants to go, right, baby?” He gives me a twitch of his lips, letting me know he’s in charge and there ain’t shit this detective can do.

“Yes.” I nod with an air of confidence.

“Detective, I do recall you said you weren’t involved in this. I must inform my brother-in-law about your involvement with the Moreno family. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I promised to prove to my woman that my long hours weren’t spent dicking anyone else but her.” A slight gasp escapes my lips, and I squirm on the leather upholstery.

Emboldened by his hold and horny by his promise, I stare at the ballsy crooked cop and say, “I’m safe, Detective. I’d move your feet.”

“You heard the lady,” the driver says, putting the vehicle in drive, and Sanchez is smart enough to move his feet because Gio’s driver takes off.

The adrenaline shoots through me, and I feel insanely powerful. Then I feel the heat of my captor’s breath on my cheek and my pulse quickens. “Now, Patricia suits you,” Gio whispers against my neck.

“I like it when you call me Cupcake,” I answer, blushing at my revelation. The confession should have stayed a secret because this man isn’t my friend or my lover. He is my enemy, and his family wants my head.

He runs his nose along my throat, sniffing before he releases a groan. “Good. You smell like cupcakes.”

This is getting a little too intimate for a man who would do nothing but destroy me from the inside out before killing me, so I gingerly slide farther away from him. Trying to break the sexual tension, I remember what happened this morning and explain the cupcake smell. “That was an accident. I was baking for my birthday, and, well, something happened…I don’t want to talk about it. You can just drop me off somewhere else. I appreciate you helping me get away from them.”

“No,” he growls, dragging me back to him, leaving no room between us. Our legs are touching from hip to calves, and I wonder if he can feel my pussy throb every time he grunts or growls like a damn animal.

“I swear I had nothing to do with what happened to your family,” I insist, pleading my case. As much as I want to stay close to him, there’s no way I can, and it would be foolish to think otherwise.
