I haul her up over my pregnant belly, saying a pray that Jude is still asleep. If he wakes up with me climbing through his window, he's going to spank me. Which is kind of the point, but I'd prefer to enjoy my punishment later and not get the lecture I know I'll get if he actually catches me crawling through the window. He's so bossy! Every time I get pregnant, he gets extra protective.

I don't really mind, but I'm not very good at following the rules either. The truth is…I like it when my grumpy daddy bear comes out to play. His punishments are my favorite. Finding ways to earn them is one of my favorite things to do.

I never put myself in harm's way, but Jude thinks anything more than walking across a flat surface is the equivalent of skydiving. Considering that he had steps installed under his window the first time I crawled through when I was pregnant with Dylan, I think I'm pretty safe here. He would beg to differ. So I misbehave to remind him that he is not the boss of me, as much as he likes to think he is.

I help Dylan onto the steps and then clamber onto the bottom one to peer through the window. Jude is passed out in the bed, one arm thrown over his eyes. My stomach flutters when I see his bare chest. His leg is bent at an angle, pulling the sheets down to reveal that he's wearing boxers. Thank goodness. Dylan does not need to see what is underneath them. She already asks a million questions a day.

"It's daddy!" she says, bouncing excitedly. "Look, mommy! Him is here!"

"I know, baby girl," I whisper. "You gotta be quiet."

"Oh, yeah," she says.

I wait for a second to make sure Jude isn't going to wake up and then slowly slide the window open. Dylan shifts impatiently, eager to get inside. She is a daddy's girl through and through. She loves nothing more than to curl up and make Jude read to her. She never wants to read princess books either. Oh no. She wants stories about knights and dragons and danger.

She's either going to burn the world to the ground one day…or run for president. Either one is equally possible. She's a fierce little girl with fierce opinions. I can't wait to see what she becomes when she's older. The world probably trembled in fear the day she was born. I love her so much!

Her little brothers are a lot more chill than she is. Duke is three and Dawson is two. They're both tame little boys. They follow Dylan around, marching to her orders. They're protective of her though. A little boy pushed her on the playground last month. Duke tried to spank him. Dawson bit him. They nearly started a riot. We all left in tears. We're never going back to that playground again.

"Careful," I whisper, lifting Dylan up over the windowsill. She grabs onto the ledge and plops down before wiggling forward. Within seconds, she's standing on her feet on the other side, beaming at me.

"Your turn, mommy," she whispers…mostly.

I pull myself up the steps and then squeeze through the frame. It's a lot easier when I'm not six months pregnant. Eventually, I manage to fit myself through, though. I step into Jude's room, slightly out of breath and only a little sweaty.

"What are you doing?"

"Ahh!" I scream, jumping a foot into the air. I spin around to see Jude standing behind me, holding Dylan in his arms.

"Daddy's awake," she says. The little traitor.

"I see that," I say, and then scowl at him. "You scared the crap out of me."

"Yeah?" He smirks, leaning down to kiss me. "That wouldn't be a problem if you'd use the fucking door, princess."

"It could have been locked," I mumble against his lips.

"You have a key."

"It's at home."

"Why didn't you bring it?"

Because I had no intention of using it. Not that I'm telling him that.

"Forgot," I lie, cuddling up against his chest.

He snorts, not believing me for a minute. He never does. I swear he always knows when I'm lying. He has those ridiculous lawyer spidey senses. They can smell my bullshit a mile away. At least that's what I tell myself. I refuse to believe it's because I'm a terrible liar.

"We sneaked in to surpwise you, daddy," Dylan says.

Well, crap.

"Are you surpwised?"

"Very," Jude says somberly.

I'm so busted.

"Yay!" Dylan cheers.

"Why don't you go see what Aunt Gloria has in the kitchen for you, baby girl?" he says. "I bet she has cookies with your name on them."

"Oh, cookies!" Dylan whispers, wiggling in his arms to get down. Of course she whispers this time. Nothing speaks to her heart quite like chocolate.

Jude carries her to the door, unlocking it before he sets her on her feet. She immediately takes off, skipping down the hall. He shouts to Gloria to let her know that Dylan is coming out and then waits for Gloria to shout back before closing the door. The lock clicks into place, making my belly flip.
