A sob forced its way out my throat as I leaned forward and connected our lips.

Why, oh why, did Julian have to be so fucking perfect?

I watched Julian as he strode across the field towards me, his helmet under his hand. I was doing my last few stretches before I had to take to the center of the football field to dance.

He set his helmet down at his feet as he neared me. I stood back up to my full height. He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me against him, his other hand coming down to grip my ass to yank me closer to him. “Stop worrying,” he commanded as his blue eyes clashed with my green ones.

I sighed. “I can’t,” I grumbled. “It doesn’t matter what I’m dancing for; I will always worry about fucking up,” I admitted.

He shook his head. “Babe, you’re the best fucking dancer I know. You’ve got this. You’ve been practicing every day since you found out about this. You’re going to do great.”

Tears welled in my eyes. Julian softly sighed and pressed his hand to the back of my head, pressing the side of my face to his chest. “I’m sorry,” I whispered, my voice thick with tears. “My hormones are still all out of whack.”

He softly laughed. “It’s normal, baby girl,” he reassured me. He pressed his lips to the top of my head. “You’re going to do fantastic.”

I saw the other dancers moving towards the field, and I sighed, moving back from him. He grinned at me, and my heart flipped in my chest. He really was too good looking for his own damn good.

“You’re going to kill this, baby,” he said, his tone filled with confidence in me.

I drew in a deep breath and moved across the field.

I watched Meghan as she took the lead at the front of the group, her body moving effortlessly and flawlessly. The crowd was roaring for her. I was on my feet with Axel, Joey, and Vincent, roaring her name and cheering for her. It didn’t take long for the rest of my teammates to join us.

She was beautiful—fucking magnificent—as she danced. She was in her element—a true fucking goddess.

My goddess.

Suddenly, she stopped, all of the color washing out of her face. Someone near her reached forward to grab her as her knees buckled, but I was already running full sprint across the field, my heart in my throat.

“She passed out,” the girl told me that was holding her up, her eyes nervously cast away from me.

“Give her here,” I ordered, my tone hard and angry, though inside, my beast was aching to be let loose. I was worried about her, and I didn’t know how to handle what I was feeling.

She quickly moved her body weight to me. Her dance professor was trying to say something, and the trainer was trying to get me to wait for paramedics, but I wasn’t listening. I certainly wasn’t letting them make her wait for care until the paramedics showed up.

Vincent rushed over to me with his phone to his ear as I lifted Meghan’s body up into my arms. “Axel is bringing his car around,” he told me. “Coach is cool. Game is off the rest of the night.”

I nodded, though I didn’t give a fuck. Meghan was the most important thing in the world to me. Nothing else mattered above her and her wellbeing. I would have said fuck the game regardless of how the coach felt.

I made my way to the edge of the field. Vincent quickly jumped over the fence line near where Axel’s car was idling. With gritted teeth, I forced myself to hand Meghan over to Vincent so I could swing my body over the fence as well. It was quicker than walking all the way around to the exit.

Vincent quickly moved to the car with Meghan in his arms. I easily swung my massive body over the fence and rushed to the car as Vincent laid her body out in the backseat.

“She should have been waking up by now,” Axel stated as he tightened his hand around the steering wheel. “Something is definitely wrong.”

I clenched my jaw. “You think I don’t fucking know that?!” I barked as I slid into the backseat with her, placing her on my lap. “Fucking go,” I ordered.

I tightened my arms around her. She softly groaned as her green eyes fluttered open, locking on mine. “What happened?” she quietly asked.

“You passed out,” I informed her, extremely relieved to see her awake again. I blew out a harsh breath, feeling my temper spiking. “I fucking told you to take care of yourself,” I snapped.

She glared up at me. “I always take care of myself,” she snarled.
